Track 2020 Goals with This App
Updated: Sep 6, 2022
If you’ve been blessed to meet financial or other personal goals without interruption, congratulations! However, in order to continue this route in 2020, you must be creative in developing additional strategies to navigate economic or other challenges.
Goal Identification
If you haven’t been consistent in meeting your goals, you still have time to structure a plan. You may have a general idea of what you want to accomplish next year, but the thought of achieving all your goals may be overwhelming. The first step you will need to do is identify your goals and set a target date.
Categorize Your Goals
The next step you will need to complete is categorize your goals according to priority. For example, write down goals that require money such as saving a down payment for a house, car, or tuition. You can then move forward with listing goals that require time management such as creating school schedules, meal plans, or weekly household chore assignments.
Educate Yourself
If you haven’t done so already, research information to find out what tools, amount of money, or steps you need to implement to accomplish your goals. Oftentimes we rely on ourselves for guidance. Unfortunately, this can lead to time delays and confusion. When you utilize resources, technical tools, and counseling services, you can speed up the goal achievement process.
For example, recession reports have revealed a global housing crisis that has affected citizens of all education, age, and economic levels. Depending on the location where housing costs have dramatically increased, the housing epidemic has become a figurative virus that’s waiting for a cure.
Although there are housing assistance programs available such as Section 8 and subsidized housing, the opportunities are not enough to accommodate all eligible candidates.
Therefore, alternative routes must be taken when long waiting lists suggests that openings may not be available for several years.
If you live in Michigan and desire to purchase a home instead of renting, there is a housing assistance program that can help you reach your goal of homeownership. The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) offers down payment assistance.
MSHDA provides up to $7,500. Eligibility requirements for this program includes:
A minimum credit score of 640 or 660 for multi-section manufactured homes
Applicants must be first-time or repeat buyers who have not owned a home during the past three years.
Statewide home sales price must not exceed $224,500.
Household income cannot exceed these limits.
National Faith Home Buyers works with this program and can help you stay on track with meeting these requirements. Applicants are required to attend a National Faith Home Buyers workshop that will educate you about the process of purchasing a home.
Once you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate and be required to attend counseling to increase your credit score and savings toward the down payment and closing costs. This organization can also provide assistance if you live in Georgia and Florida. Visit the website or call for more details.
This is just one example of how you can bring clarity to your goals and be proactive in planning for the future vs. letting the future happen to you. Other goal examples may include writing a book, losing weight, or acquiring more business clients.
