Shipt Grocery Delivery Review: Get $10 in Free Groceries

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

I know it’s been a while since my last post regarding the Shipt grocery delivery service, but I’ve been quite busy. I finally got a chance to sign up last week, and I wanted to share my experience with you so that you can decide if Shipt is right for you.

First, I’d like to thank the founders of the company for coming up with such a great idea. I remember not too long ago I wished within myself that this type of service was available.

I saw an insert for a similar service in a Valpak envelope from a company that offered fresh food for dinner meals. I thought wow, it would be nice if this type of service was available for groceries. I know you can order dry goods and canned food through some of the big retailers but being able to order fresh produce online is a plus.

Registration Process

The Shipt website is user-friendly, and registration is simple. However, I’d like to give a word of caution for you to pay close attention to the address box.

Some retailers such as Walgreens and CVS offer the ability for you to search for the nearest stores by allowing you to type in your zip code. Once you’ve entered your zip code, a list of stores will appear that are within the mile radius you requested.

After I registered and signed up for a monthly membership, I entered my zip code to locate the nearest store. However, a list of stores did not pop up. Instead, an address starting with my zip code appeared with a street name, and a city that’s not too far from mine.

When I saw this address, I assumed that it was the address of the nearest Meijer that offered this service. Usually, I pay close attention to details, but I failed to verify the address of the store and did not carefully review my profile. I guess I was in such a hurry and excited to start shopping.

Online Aisle Categories

After my registration was complete, I browsed the inventory. On the home page of a customer’s account portal, there will be six categories to choose from:

• Dinner Tonight

• What’s On Sale?

• Healthy Eating

• Autumn Produce

• Tailgate Essentials

• Stock Up for the Holidays

These categories reduce browsing time, and after you click on a category, you can also enter the type of item you’re looking for in the search box if you don’t want to scroll down the entire page. Some pages may have a few items while other pages have an extensive listing.

You can add items as you browse and decrease items once you review your shopping basket prior to checkout. It’s quick and easier than walking from one side of the store to the other especially when trying to access every item that’s on sale.

Wrong Profile Address

Once you’ve added the items you’ve wanted, you can evaluate whether you really need certain items or not. The ability to eliminate the calculation process is another benefit if you find yourself calculating your items’ total more than once. I’ve used this service twice, once last week, and today.

The first time I used the service, it took me about an hour because I had to register, and then familiarize myself with Meijer’s inventory. Although I knew what I wanted, it took longer than I anticipated because I wanted to be sure that I didn’t miss any good sales.

When I was finished shopping, a list of delivery times appeared, and I made my selection. When I submitted my order, I still did not pay attention to the address. I eagerly anticipated my delivery because my shopper texted me while he was at the store to inform that an item, I ordered was not available, but then it was available because a tech brought the item out from the stock area.

This let me know that the shopper was almost finished, and that he would be delivering the items soon. When he called me ten minutes before the delivery deadline which is an hour block, he asked me for my address. After I informed him, he informed me that he was at the address indicated on the form which was in another city.

Order Reroute

After I explained what I assumed after registering, he said he would contact the corporate office. I contacted him a few minutes later to see where he was, and he said he was driving, and that he would have to contact me later. I called him again after waiting awhile, and the number was blocked.

So, I became anxious. I examined the distance that the shopper would have to drive from the address on the original order to my address, and it was about 20 minutes. I felt bad at this point because I always aim to pay attention to details. I checked my portal and saw that my order had been canceled. At this point I wasn’t certain if he was still coming.

So, I called the corporate office to see what was going on. As I was calling the corporate office in Washington, a representative was calling me at the same time. When I dropped my call, and answered, a representative was on the line calling my name which caught me by surprise.

She was contacting me to inform me that the order was canceled. However, my order was in the process of being rerouted to the nearest store which I was also amazed at this quick problem resolution. I also explained to her what I assumed when I clicked on the wrong address that was linked to my file, and that I had changed my information.

The representative informed me that my order would arrive within the next hour block which was between 4pm and 5pm. I accepted the change and waited. I assumed that the shopper would be from the Meijer in my local area based on the representative’s information, however, to my surprise, the first shopper who got the wrong address showed up.

I was like wow; he drove out of his way to complete the order when he could have easily dropped the food off at the Meijer in the other city and continued on with his other customer delivery requests. Although I did not tip him online prior to his arrival because I wanted to access my profile to verify my address, I tipped him to compensate for his gas usage. My items were delivered as requested, and I enjoyed my food.

Why I Used Shipt Again

My second shopping experience took about 30 minutes. Instead of shopping before submitting my order, I added items to my basket between 2am and 2:30 am. I went to sleep, and when I woke up, I thought about adding a few more items to my list.

This process also helped reduce the stress that’s associated with rushing because you can take your time, and if you’ve forgot something, you can add it later. When you’re absolutely certain that you’re finished, just pay for your items, and submit your order.

This time I was prepared. So, after readjusting my shopping cart, I paid for the items, and selected the earliest delivery time which was about two hours after I submitted my order.

I was very hungry because my food stock was low. I was certainly glad that I was prepared this time because I shopped very early in the morning. My shopper texted me about an hour before the actual delivery time to let me know that she was going to start my request soon.

She asked me if there was anything I wanted to add to the list, and she also informed me of the items which were not in stock. She arrived about 30 minutes before the delivery deadline and handed all of my groceries to me in one van-to-door trip.

Overall, this delivery service is one of the best decisions I’ve made because it reduces the stress of having to do everything yourself. If you have several responsibilities like I do (i.e., work from home, parental caregiver, homeschool mom, housekeeper, etc), this service is definitely like having a personal assistant.

My last shopping experience at Walmart was quite stressful because I was trying to remember everything I was supposed to purchase. Since Walmart has almost everything pertaining to the household under one roof, it still gets hard when you forget something and have to walk from the grocery department to the electronics department to the personal care department back to the household department, and so on.

You know how it is. It can be physically taxing especially for me. I have back problems, and once I arrived home, I felt like somebody whipped me. Anyway, today I felt a lot better physically and mentally. All I had to do was carry my groceries to the kitchen and unpack.

Recommendations

I definitely recommend Shipt if you don’t have a lot of time to grocery shop, hate grocery shopping, don’t have transportation, or you have a disability. Holiday grocery shopping can also wreak havoc on your nerves.

Sometimes as humans we feel the need to control every aspect of our lives, but this service can help you relax. If you want to try this service, you can sign up today and receive $10 in FREE Groceries by visiting here

Paying a little extra every month ($14.00) or yearly ($99.00) for a delivery membership is worth the sacrifice. Although it’s an extra expense, when you grocery shop online, I find that it prevents you from overspending at least to me.

Happy online grocery shopping!
