Is Your Spiritual Vision Security Turned On?
Updated: Sep 8, 2022
Security systems today are equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and alert systems. These components can aid in safety prevention and investigative work.
When working consistently and able to receive prompt authoritative responses, security systems are investments that can generate a viable return.
Although internal and external cameras are attached to building security systems, someone still needs to be available to ensure the equipment is working properly and intruders are identified as quickly as possible.
Building security systems are great to an extent, however, while these mechanisms are designed to catch trespassers, there are intruders that can slip into our lives inconspicuously. This can happen even while looking at the camera.
You might be thinking, how can an intruder not be spotted if all cameras have alerted the security system that a property is at risk? What I’m referring to is what shows up on a screen, and the type of content you’re looking at.
Viewing Caution Advised
In addition to building security cameras, phone cameras, and videos present images that our minds capture, register, and store for a long time. Magazines can also have this long-term effect.
Although we cannot completely control what our eyes capture during our search, we can still control the amount of time our eyes engage with the content.
Social media and television has made it easy to access all types of visual content. If you’re a parent, you know how unsafe this can be especially if your children are very young.
Children are very impressionable and will act out what they see. This is due to not only the visual impression, but also the spiritual persuasion.
If your children have their own phones, you surely cannot monitor every moment of their social media engagement if you don’t have any safety measures in place.
Although current technology has been influential in the way we process information whether good or bad, enticing influence on behavior can be tracked to the beginning of creation.
Genesis 3 explains the initial Fall, and how Eve was deceived by the serpent who manipulated her into thinking what God commanded was not really what he meant (see Genesis 2:17). After the serpent influenced Eve’s mental perception of the commandment, her visual perception also changed.
Genesis 3:6 reveals … “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
This illustrates how our senses can be quickly influenced even when we don’t have an intention to do wrong, but perhaps we can be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I don’t know how large the garden was, but there were plenty of other trees to enjoy.
Adam didn’t hesitate to eat the fruit. He also did not interrogate and reprimand Eve for eating the fruit. James 1:14 reveals … “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.” This clue may indicate that a desire to taste the fruit was already in Adam’s mind prior to Eve’s cajoling him to do so.
2 Samuel 11:1-4 also explains how King David let his guard down when he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman.
And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.
Safety Zones
When browsing the Internet, there may be times when you get a page from the search engine that a specific webpage is not safe. The words DO NOT PROCEED may appear across your screen along with other reasons such as the harm it may cause your computer or regarding the content.
Since malicious malware and other viruses have a subtle way of attacking your electronic devices, it is not wise to proceed. If you proceed, you will put your device at risk.
This can be a terrible consequence especially if you have work or school documents stored in your database.
There are also times when this type of warning does not come, and malicious malware can creep in through online ads you’ve clicked on. If you don’t shut your device down immediately instead of clicking to see why your computer is stalled, you’re subject to immediate intrusion.
That’s why it’s wise to also safeguard your electronics with antivirus software.
Spiritual Antivirus Options
You may already know about the aforementioned measures to safeguard your electronic devices and property; however, I wrote about those measures because now I want you to start thinking spiritually. The Bible reveals in I Kings 8:46 … “(for there is no man that sinneth not).
With that being the natural instinct case, you have to make an extra effort to guide yourself in the right direction because the longer you gaze at something, the more enticing it becomes. This can also relate to gossip, slandering, and other sins that can lead you down a path of destruction.
Proverbs 23:7 specifies … “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”
If you’ve struggled in any area of your life, then you’ve probably already tried and failed numerous times. Well, I’m certainly not writing this post from a place of judgment, but from a place of a friend helping a friend.
I’ve learned what works, and what doesn’t work. And depending solely on yourself to resist temptation does not work.
I’ve tried the Word of God and found that it helps tremendously. You may still make mistakes but attempting to do right is better than purposely doing wrong.
If you don’t trust yourself to make it through the morning, day, or afternoon, speak these scriptures aloud every day to strengthen and command your spirit to align with God’s commandments:
• I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. A froward heart shall depart from me. I will not know a wicked person. (Psalm 101:1-4).
• Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. (Psalm 141:3).
• Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good (Romans 12:9).
• Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me (Psalm 119:133).
• Keep thy servant back from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression (Psalm 19:13).
• And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (I Thessalonians 5:23).
